Booms may be used in these freshwater environments to divert or contain oil to be recovered via skimmers or burned off. Removal of oil collected in natural eddies or coves is a major priority, as these are often prime feeding and breeding grounds for fish and wildlife.
Sorbents may be used for small-volume spills, or as a final "polish" after other response options have been used.
